Airport

Athens Airport is located approximately 20 miles to the city center and subject to normal traffic, the transfer time is 35/40 minutes.

Baggage and Liquids

When flying on scheduled flights such as British Airways or Aegean Airlines the baggage allowance is 23kgs. If Insynq have booked flights on your behalf on the ‘No Frills’ airlines like EasyJet,Jet 2 or RyanAir we will book and pre-pay for ONE piece of hold luggage weighing up to 20 kilos. Please ensure all luggage is clearly named. In order to be more environmentally friendly, Unitas Wholesale will not be providing branded luggage labels, Please note that with the exception of British Airways and Aegean, all flights have been booked with checked-in luggage only and therefore you will not be able to take large pieces of hand luggage.

Travelling with liquids: We strongly advise you to pack any liquids that you don’t need whilst on board the aircraft in your hold baggage. However, if you do need to travel with liquids please be aware of the following restrictions which apply to all liquids being carried in hand luggage.

All liquids must be in individual containers not greater than 100ml capacity.
They must be placed in one transparent bag, no larger than 8 x 8 inches (20cim x 20cm) in size, and fit comfortably inside the bag so that it can be fastened closed.
Only one bag per person is allowed and must be clear and re-sealable, e.g. zip-lock bags or bags with pressed seals.
These bags must be put through the x-ray machines separately.
All sharp items must be packed in hold luggage.

Banking Hours

Greek banks are usually open from 8:30am-2:30pm Mondays to Thursday and 08:30 to 2:30pm on Fridays.. Athens has a broad network of bank offices, especially in the city center and tourist areas, as well as a great many ATM machines dotted all over the city that are available 24/7.

Climate

The average daytime temperatures in the month of September are around 28°C (that is about 80°F), whereas the average minimum temperatures drop down to 20°C (that is about 70°F.)

Currency

The Euro is the official currency and the current rate of exchange is approximately EUR1.15 to £1 (correct at time of print)

Doctor

Please advise a member of the Insynq staff if you require medical attention.

During The Conference

Dress Code

For social events and conference business sessions – smart casual.
For the Gala Dinner, the dress code is casual, but no shorts.

Excursions – (Sunday afternoon)

Please refer to the Booking Form where you can book onto the City Excursion or Rib Boat Excursion (subject to availability).

Flying Time

The average non-stop flight time between the UK and Athens is between 3 hours 30 minutes and 4 hours 20 minutes

Health

The standard of health care in Athens is very good. Some planning can save you trouble later. Bring medications in their original, clearly labelled containers. A signed and dated letter from your physician describing your medical conditions and medication, including generic names, is a good idea.
If you experience any health issues during your stay in Athens, please advise a member of the Unitas Wholesale staff or via the Unitas Wholesale Hospitality Desk.

You should have adequate Travel Insurance that covers any medical needs

Insurance

Insurance is required primarily for medical coverage but also for loss or damage to luggage, theft or loss of property. Travel insurance is easily obtainable either on-line or from your local Post Office

Please note that, in general, Travel Insurance only covers personal belongings up to the amount of £200. Any property you are taking on the trip of a higher value such as cameras, laptops etc. should be covered separately. You may find these are covered on your home insurance policy. Please note mobile phones are not covered under most travel insurance policies.

WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU HAVE TRAVEL INSURANCE COVER.

Night life

Nightlife in Athens is exciting, as Greeks like to go out late and spend time in bars. Hence, there is variety of options for spending a pleasant evening in this dynamic city.

Passports & Visas

Visas are not required for UK and European passport holders. All documentation must be current, have a minimum validity of three months and have been issued within the previous ten years. Please check with Russell Gilbey if you do not hold a UK or EU Passport as you may require a visa

Safety

As in all destinations, Athens does have a (small) crime element albeit mainly petty pick-pocketing. Please ensure that you keep handbags, wallets and cameras etc. secure when you are out and about. It is advisable to take extra care at night by not being out on your own.

Shopping

Shops are generally open: Monday & Wednesday: 9 am-3 pm; Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 9 am-2 pm and 5.30 pm-9 pm; Saturdays: 9 am-3 pm; almost all shops are closed on Sundays.

Special Dietary Requirements

If you have any special meal requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan, gluten free etc. and have not already advised Russell Gilbey of this please do so before your departure, as arrangements are more difficult to arrange once in Athens.

Taxi’s

The average fare for a trip in an Athens taxi within the city is around €8. There’s a base fare of €1.80 for every journey and a charge of €0.90/km during the day and €1.25/km at night.
A taxi ride to the airport will cost approx. €50.00
It is best to arrange a taxi from the hotel concierge. Please ensure that the driver turns on the meter at the start of the journey or agree a fare in advance.

Time

The local time in Athens is two hours ahead of the UK (+2 HOURS)
